Nutsedge, commonly called nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus), is one of the most persistent weeds found in lawns. It poses a significant challenge for homeowners and lawn care professionals alike due to its aggressive underground tuber system, known as nutlets. These nutlets can remain dormant for years before sprouting, making eradication a long-term battle. Unlike most weeds, the above-ground seeds of nutsedge are sterile, meaning its spread relies entirely on its underground network. Given the right conditions—warm, moist soil—it can quickly become invasive, requiring a strategic approach for effective control.
What Can Be Done?
✔ Do Not Pull It – Pulling nutsedge can trigger the underground nutlets to produce even more growth, leading to an increase in its presence.
✔ Targeted Weed Control – As part of our weed control program, we incorporate specialized products designed specifically to manage nutsedge. These treatments are applied during each of our regular visits and work as part of an ongoing management strategy rather than a one-time solution.
